METRO-NORTH
Commuters and other passengers traveling along the
beautiful Hudson River can enjoy the scenery daily.
Metro-north Commuter Railroad FL9 locomotives push
train No. 876 southbound towards the next stop,
Peekskill, N.Y.
    

CALIFORNIA WESTERN M-300
Railbus M-300 switches the yard at Willits, Calif.,
Nov. 29, 1991. The unique piece of passenger
equipment was built in 1935 by American Car
for the Aberdeen and Rockfish Railroad. It was
later used on the Salt Lake, Garfield & Western
between Salt Lake City and Saltair before being
sold to the California Western in 1963.

SUSQUEHANNA 142
One of the newest steam locomotives in the world, New
York, Susquehanna and Western Mikado 142 is seen at
Butler, N.J., September 12, 1992. The 2-8-2 was
purchased from the Valley Railroad in late 1991, which
received the steamer from the Tang Shan Works in
China during December 1989.
    

THE FLYING YANKEE
With the arrival of experimental X2000 train from
Sweden, one is reminded of Amtrak's self-contained
Turbotrain sets, built by United Aircraft, two decades
earlier. Train No. 151, The Flying Yankee, roars around
the curve into the cut, Old Lyme, Conn., October 1974.

LAKE SHORE LIMITED
On its last leg of the overnight Chicago to New York
trip, Amtrak train No. 48, the Lake Shore Limited has
passed through Breakneck Tunnel, just north of Cold
Spring, N.Y. The Lake Shore Limited offers sleeper,
dining, lounge and coach accommodations for its
eastbound run.
    

NJ TRANSIT
NJ Transit E60CP electric locomotive 967 leads a
shorebound commuter train across the Raritan River at
South Amboy, N.J., October 28, 1983. NJT purchased 10
of these big GE motors from Amtrak in 1983, replacing
the classic GG1s.

VIA LRC
VIA's new Lightweight Reliable Comfortable train
from Bombardier occupies part of the wye track
at St. Lambert, Que. while undergoing test. Seen
here on April 15, 1981, this train and additonal
sets went into service later in the year.
    

BANGOR & AROOSTOOK 50
General Motor's EMD model BL2 No. 50 is assisted
by F3 No. 47 at Searsport, Maine, January 24,
1960.

BALTIMORE & OHIO 5303
Streamlined Pacific 5303 is seen leaving
Union Station, Dayton, Ohio northbound,
February 5, 1956. The 4-6-2 was streamlined
for the Cincinnatian and built by Baldwin,
earlier in 1927.
    

PENNSYLVANIA 5412
Another New York & Long Branch commuter
train leaves the station at South Amboy, N.J.
after making an engine change from GG1
electric power. The K4s, 5412 here, February
1954, were last used on this commuter run.

KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN
A northbound freight with Kansas City Southern
SD50 diesels 713, 712, and 709 set out "dodger"
power at Mena, Arkansas, March 22, 1989.
    

SOUTHERN PACIFIC
Doubleheaded steam locomotives 2472 and
4449 are westbound at Pinole, Calif. with a
Railfare '91 Special, May 17, 1991. Pacific
2472 was built by Baldwin in 1921 and
Daylight Northern 4449 by Lima Locomotive
Works back in 1941.

NEVADA NORTHERN 40
Ten-Wheeler No.40 is on the high line south
of McGill, Nevada, October 31, 1992. Occasion
was the Trains Unlimited trip. No. 40 is a
product of Baldwin, 1910.
    

INTERNATIONAL
Great Northern 367-A wears the new Big Sky
Blue colors at Seattle, Washington,
September 6, 1967. Northern Pacific 6703-A
leads the power for train No. 408.

CANADIAN NATIONAL 6003
Conrail train CNSE operates through New
York State from Montreal daily with Canadian
National power terminating in Selkirk Yard.
Canadian National North America 6003, with
the new paint scheme, is at Voorheesville,
N.Y., just a few miles from the end of the run,
June 27, 1993.
    

EMPIRE STATE EXPRESS
The afternoon train from western New York
arrives at the newly restored Hudson, N.Y.
station. The train is one of several Amtrak
Turboliners in Empire Service between New
York City and Buffalo.

SOUTHERN PACIFIC
Steam locomotives show off at their best at
night. Southern Pacific Daylight Northern
4449 and Pacific 2472 hold still for the flash in
Santa Clara Yard. Both locomotives powered
special excursions in the early '90's.
    

NJ TRANSIT
A trio of NJ Transit E8s pull a Queen of the Valley
fantrip eastbound across the Lehigh River at Al-
lentown, Penna., October 10, 1982. The bridge
formerly belonged to the Lehigh Valley and is
now part of Conrail.

SOUTHERN PACIFIC 7110
GP40-2R leads sister 7111 through the canyons
west of Carlin, Nevada, on the joint UP/SP main-
line, May 15, 1991. The GP40-2Rs were formerly
Gp40s that were remanufactured in Mountain
Top Penna., by Morrison Knudsen.
    

INTERCITY EXPRESS
Amtrak's borrowed German InterCity
Express makes its first Saturday revenue run
on a Metroliner schedule from Washington,
D.C. to New York City, October 23, 1993. The
ICE Train is seen on the Northeast Corridor
near Bowie, Md.
