Mississippian 76
Consolidation No. 76, a former Frisco locomotive, is
seen at work near Amory, Miss. In the 1980's, the
Baldwin 2-8-0 is in excursion service on the
Gettysburg Railroad in Pennsylvania.
    

PENNSYLVANIA 1361
It's a rainy Sunday morning for the inaugural run of
Pennsy K4 Pacific 1361. After years of display at
Horseshoe Curve, the 4-6-2 runs east through Bald
Eagle, Pa., April 12, 1987 to Bellefonte. 1361, owned
by the Railroaders memorial Museum in Altoona, was
restored to service in Conrails's Car Shop.

LAMOILLE VALLEY 7804
Lamoille Valley chopnose Alco RS-3 7804 moves
westbound tonnage through Concord, Vermont, over
the former maine Central trackage of LVRC's
subsidiary Twin Mountain Railroad, August 18. 1986.
No. 7804 started life as Delaware & Hudson 4094
before having its rear, now front, lowered.
    

ERIE 713
Maybrook, N.Y. was the junction and interchange
point for the Erie, Lehigh & Hudson River, New
Haven and Ontario & Western Railroads. In this scene
Erie F units are on a merchandise freight.

THE POST ROAD EXPRESS
Amtrak Superliners in the east! Excursions were
provided to the general public for Amtrak's Family
Days from Albany-Rensselaer, N.Y. to Post Road on
the old Boston & Albany. The six car Superliner train
operated with a locomotive on each end, October 9,
1982.
    

SOUTHERN 2255
General Motors EMD model NW2 Diesel Switcher is
shown near Cincinnati union Station March 2,1956.

METRO-NORTH 806
The first GE B23-7 to wear the new paint scheme.
Metro-North Commuter Railroad acquired conrail
locomotives 1900-1909 for additional power for
passenger and work trains after Conrail departed the
commuter business on January 1, 1983. No. 806 is
seen at North White Plains, N.Y. on October 8, 1983.
    

NAPA VALLEY WINE TRAIN
Starting service in September 1989. The Napa
Valley Wine Train makes a three hour round
trip between Napa and St. Helena. The lavish
train services lunch or dinner in the five car con-
sist. The two Alco locomotives lead the train near
Yountville, Cal.

CHICAGO & NORTH WESTERN 8508
One of the many unit coal trains is seen at Reno
Junction, Wyo., August 28,1989. The three unit
diesel consists of a pair of General Electric
C40-8's and a new Electro-Motive wide cab
SD60M built for the Union Pacific.
    

BURLINGTON NORTHERN
A set of Electro-Motive coverd wagons, in the classic A-B-A
lash-up at the Burlington Northern's Essex, MT helper
station, July 29,1977. No. 810 still displays its F9 model
designation from the builder. The BN rostered the last and
largest fleet of F-units in the late 1970's.

CP RAIL
Stacker 551 accelerates northbound through CP Rail's
Bridge Line Division Saratoga Springs Station, April 7, 1993.
No. 6034 is one of three locomotives in the new CP Rail
System colors.
    

GRAND TRUNK
470 Railroad Club's 15th annual tri-state fall
foliage trip departs Portland, Me. over CN's
Back Cove Trestle for Island Pond, Vt. The
four GP9's head the largest passenger extra
out of Portland, 22 cars. Sunday, october 5,
1975.

AUTO TRAIN
Amtrak's Auto Train, a daily service that provides
transportation for people and their cars, makes the run
between Lorton, Va. and Sanford, Fla. Two new General
Electric Genesis locomotives lead the train over Aquia
Creek on CSX's former RF&P mainline near
Stafford, Va.
    

ELECTRO-MOTIVE
New SD70M demonstrator locomotives see revenue service
on Conrail's OIEN-1 just west of the Pattenburg, NJ tunnel.
March 31, 1993. EMD's test car ET820 is sandwiched
between the trio, 7000-7002.

AMTRAK X2000
On assignment during the first half of 1993, ABB Traction's
Swedish all-electric train substituted for regular Metroliners
in regular service. The tilting cars, for passenger comfort,
and steering axle wheels, for higher speeds on curves,
allowed for increased speeds to 135 m.p.h. The train is seen
at Harmans, MD, February 20, 1993.
    

GULF BREEZE
Amtrak's new General Electric AMD-103
locomotive No. 804 makes the station stop at
Montgomery, Ala., with three Heritage cars.
These 4000 h.p. locomotives were being
delivered by GE starting in the last half of
1993. The northbound Gulf Breeze combines
with the Crescent in Birmingham, Ala.

NORFOLK & WESTERN 611
Built in the railroad's Roanoke Shops, class J
Northern is seen at evening in Blasdell, N.Y.,
July 28, 1992.
    

AMTRAK ICE TRAIN
Amtrak's F69s 450 and 451 lead the ICE Train
along the banks of the Mystic River in mystic,
Conn., en route to Boston on Tuesday,
September 14, 1993. The German Inter-City
Express exposed the railroad and public to
European high speed rail service equipment
in displays and revenue service during the
last half of the year.

PACIFIC EXPRESS
Erie westbound train No. 7, the Pacific Express, makes a
mid-afternoon stop at Warren, Ohio, in 1949. The train
provided daytime service west of Elmira, N.Y. through
Ohio.
    

RICHMOND, FREDERICKSBURG &
POTOMAC 123
A southbound cut of Tropicana reefers is at Brooke, Va.,
May 1988. The RF&P was one part of the link to
transport orange juice from Florida to the Northeast.
Since October 1991, the RF&P has been a "fallen flag,"
as it is now part of the CSX System.
