RUTLAND 203
The northern end of the Rutland RR crossed
miles of lake Champlain as the line passed from
island to island. A lone Alco RS-3 and freight
travels the causeway in this 1950's view.
    

LAMOILLE VALLEY RR
A pair of Alco RS-3 locomotives pass by Joe's
Pond at West Danville, VT with a mixed train of
freight and private cars. The special excursion
with private cars operated two days, May 26 and
27, 1979.

SOUTHERN 2716
2-8-4, No. 2716, speeds an Atlanta Chapter,
National Railway Historical Society excursion
northbound through Alto, GA., November 7, 1981.
The former Chesapeake & Ohio locomotive is
on lease from the Kentucky Railway Museum.
    

SOUTHERN 2716
Southern's newest steam locomotive stands at
rest during an Atlanta to Tocoa, Ga. excursion
at its destination, November 7, 1981. 2716, a
former Chesapeake & Ohio Kanawha type, on lease
from the Kentucky Railway Museum, was one
of a group of 40 locomotives delivered by Alco
during the war years of 1943-44.

CHICAGO & NORTHWESTERN 421 & 419
In November 1981, these "Presidential" F7A's
are ready to head the Union Pacific/C&NW
Director's special coming from the Wyoming
coal fields to WEPCO's Pleasant Prairie power plant
in Wisconsin. Built in 1949 (rebuilt 1972), these
EMD 1500 h.p. units pull official inspection
trains and act as pilot locomotives when Amtrak
detours onto the C&NW.
    

ELGIN JOLIET & EASTERN 910 & 920
Baldwin center cab diesels cross Griffith crossing
at Griffith, Indiana, January 2, 1972. These units
were repowered by EMD.

FLORIDA EAST COAST
Locomotives 418 and 421, on Florida East Coast
Southbound extra, cross Snake Creek, North
Miami, Florida, February 25, 1981.
    

PATrain
Two former Wellsville, Addison & Galeton F7's,
rebuilt by GE, power the PATrain on the B&O
from Versailles to Pittsburgh, Pa. The colorful
cars are ex-C&O. June 24, 1981.

BROADWAY LIMITED
The winter of 1994 was tough on
transportation systems but the trains went
through. Amtrak's Broadway Limited is
eastbound from Chicago to New York over
Conrail's former Pennsylvania Railroad main
line at Gallitzin, Pa., January 16, 1994.
    

NEW HAVEN 0419
An Alco FA-1 A-B-A set picks up cars for the
Boston to New Haven freight at Providence,
R.I., January 3, 1958. The flatnose cabs and
booster sport the new McGinnis colors rather
than Hunter Green or one of the several other
schemes.

THE LAKE SHORE LIMITED
Amtrak's train No. 48, the water level route
eastbound train from Chicago to New York City
travels south along the scenic Hudson River at
Germantown, N.Y. Recently, in 1994, the train
was assigned new 4,000 h.p. locomotives south of
Albany/Rensselaer, N.Y.
    

On the morning of 10-27-96, no less than six "Big Mac" SD-
80MACs head empty autorack train "BO-EL-7" (Boston, MA
to Elkhart, IN) west thru Chatham Village just past CP-176.
Compared to other Conrail lines on the Conrail system, the
B&A or "Boston Line" as Conrail calls it, IS the place to see
the SD-80MAC fleet in action.

NEW YORK CENTRAL 1707
A trio of General Motors EMD F-units, with F7
1707 in the lead, have a freight well in hand
north of the border at St. Thomas, Ontario,
Canada. The Buffalo to Detroit westbound
freight is stopped for the London & Port
Stanley electric line, September 1957.
    

NEW HAVEN 0743
Alco model DL-109 is seen at the Charles
Street engine house, Providence, R.I. The unit
is off the Boston to Providence local on
September 10, 1958. This was the last year for
these veterans before being replaced by FL9s.

NEBKOTA RAILWAY
Nebkota Railway A-B-A F9's with a thirty car
consist are seen four miles east of Rushville,
Nebraska, on September 20, 1996.
    

MILWAUKEE ROAD 261
Steamtown winter spectacular excursion.
Ex-Milwaukee Road 4-8-4, class S-3 Northern
#261 built by American Locomotive Co. 1944,
pulls an eastbound passenger train from
Scranton to Moscow, PA, on the former DL & W
mainlne February 10, 1996.

FINGER LAKES RAILWAY
The Central N.Y. Chapter of the N.R.H.S. in cooperation with
the Finger Lakes Railway sponsored a Memorial Day weekend
excursion on the former New York Central Auburn Branch.
The sold-out excursions ran from Solvay, N.Y., to Skaneateles
Junction with stops at Martisco Station. Finger Lakes Railway
GP9U No. 1701 pauses at Camillus, N.Y., for the annual
Memorial Day Parade on May 26, 1997.
    

CONRAIL 4117
General Motors Electro-motive Division's state-of-the-art
SD80MAC locomotives are 80' 2" long and weigh 207 1/2
tons. They can generate 5,000 hp., and are equipped with
EMS'sradial self-steering trucks and are powered by a
new AC Traction system. Currently only Conrail has
purchased these units numbered 4100-4127. Twin
SD80MAc's 4117 and 4114 storm west-bound near
C.P.218 on the Chicago line (ex-NYC) in Little Falls, NY,
May 22, 1997.

METRO-NORTH
Metro-North FL9's 2021 and 2007 storm north-
bound with train #8832 at Breakneck Point, NY,
bound for Beacon, NY, on the Hudson line on a
pleasant afternoon April 23, 1995. Two years
later, signal changes, motive power and paint
changes have made this scene almost obsolete.
    

CHICAGO MADISON & NORTHERN 564
Former Rio Grande F7 No. 5644 operates over
the ex-Illinois Central Freeport, Ill - Madison, Wis.
line and is seen at Monroe, Wis., February 25,
1981. Color scheme is reminiscent of other
midwest roads of the 50's.
