SOUTHERN 2839
Tiger lilies frame Southern's Royal Hudson
trotting through the rolling Kentucky coun-
tryside west of Salt Lick on July 4, 1979.
The train was operating as the "Independence
Limited", a four day trip to Greensboro, NC.
    

NEW JERSEY DOT 4248
Diesel locomotive 4248 makes a test run on
the New York & Long Branch at Middle-
town, NJ, Oct. 25, 1979. The E8 was com-
pletely rebuilt at the Elizabethport Shops.

NEW YORK CENTRAL 2761
Built by the American Locomotive Co. in
Schenectady, NY in 1926 as one of 100
class L-2a Mohawk type locomotives, No.
2761 is at Harmon, NY awaiting its next run.
December 1949.
    

PENNSYLVANIA 3752
Trains from New York's Penn Station en-
route to the Northern New Jersey shore
points paused at South Amboy, NJ for an
engine change from electric to steam power.
K4 Pacific awaits its turn in 1954.

PENNSYLVANIA 8382
Consolidation 8382 at Indianapolis, Indiana.
At one time in the 1920's the Pennsylvania
RR had 3,335 of these 2-8-0's on the roster.
    

NEW YORK MTA 5043
Missing only the nose and side heralds, 5043
is the first FL9 to appear in the MTA silver
and blue colors. Seven of these diesel-electric/
electrics are scheduled to be rebuilt at the
General Electric Apparatus Shops in Hornell,
NY, location of this September 3, 1979 scene.

KATY 350
Missouri-Kansas-Texas 350 is a General Elec-
tric U23B and is shown in the Parsons, KS
yard.
    

NEW YORK CENTRAL 1652
The crew climbs aboard a new set of A-B-A
F7's to pull a string of reefers and merchan-
dise out of Collinwood, OH. The F7's are
new too, built in July of 1949 and shown
here in August 1949.

LONG ISLAND 619
Built from a worn F9 that was Milwaukee
Road 126A, the shop men built this unit into
a control cab now classed F9m. It is powered
by Detroit Diesel V-12 engine, which runs
the generator to supply hotel power for the
train. The unit is incapable of moving on its
own. September 20, 1979.
    

FRISCO 2005
E7 passenger locomotive with E8 grills
sparkles at Springfield, MO, October 28,
1961.

FAMILY LINES SYSTEM
Seaboard Coast Line locomotives 7021,
7023 and 7020, new General Electric C30-7
diesels, head up train No.289 on the Raleigh
Division, Collier Yard, VA. May 26, 1979.
    

CHICAGO & EASTERN ILLINOIS 1100
Electro-Motive E7 brings train No. 92 into
Cayuga, Indiana on June 30, 1965. At this
time the city was only a flag stop for this
northbounds train. The depot had been closed.

CHICAGO & NORTHWESTERN 201
A General Motors Electro Motive Division
model F3A diesel at Dodge Center, MN,
April 28, 1974.
    

CHICAGO RTA 114
The Regional Transportation Authority
serves the commuters on most railroads in the
Chicago area. In this scene, RTA 114, the
"Village of Tinley Park", is seen at Joliet,
IL., on the Rock Island with two bi-level cars.

THE SUPER CHIEF
New SDP40F's 503, 506, and 505 make the
first run of power of this type in Amtrak
service. The westbound "Super Chief", train
No. 3, destined for Los Angeles, CA, is
rounding the curve at Gallinas, Co, June 23,
1973.
    

BOSTON & ALBANY 1421
Steam powered freight action at East Brook-
field, Massachusetts in March 1950.

CANADIAN NATIONAL 2111
Delivered to the Canadian National from Bombar-
dier a day or two earlier, 2111 and 2117 are at
Gordon Yard in Moncton, N.B., July 29, 1982.
These units,rated at 3000 h.p., have the so called
"Draper taper", designed to give a little rear
visibility in a full width car body.
    

THE ADIRONDACK
A train of Amfleet cars headed by F40PH loco-
motive 343 bring "The Adirondack", Amtrak's
Montreal-New York train, along Lake Champlain
near Port Henry, N.Y. The rail ride along Lake
Champlain is one of the most scenic on the east
coast. August 7, 1982

MASS. BAY TRANSIT AUTHORITY 1100
MBTA No. 1100 is the first engine in a set
of 17 remanufactured diesels to be used in
the upgrading of Boston Commuter service.
The engine was re-worked by the Illinois
Central Gulf in their Paducah, KY shops. It
is designated as an FP10. Part of the order
have head-end power while the others are
equipped with steam generators. This view
of 1100 was taken crossing Boston's Fort
Point Channel Bridge once acclaimed the
largest bascule bridge in the world. Leased
Canadian GO coaches are being used to im-
prove commuter rail service. March 23, 1979.
    

BALTIMORE & OHIO 62
The early slant nose profile of Electro-
Motive's passenger diesel-electric sports the
B&O Capitol Dome herald in the Ivy City
engine terminal, Washington, D.C. A later
model #7 locomotive, in southern's green
and white, shares the scene in 1950.
