DELAWARE & ULSTER RAIL RIDE
Alco Rs-36 No. 5017 shows off its original Delaware &
Hudson colors on October 12. 1997. This is the first
revenue train into Roxbury, NY since 1976 (note
cameramen on the locomotive recording this historic
event). The Delaware & Ulster Rail Ride operators tourist
trains out of Arkville, NY in the beautiful Catskill
Mountain Region.
    

DELAWARE & HUDSON
On September 20, 1975, the Delaware & Hudson operated
a special railfan excersion which departed from Colonie.
This was the "Sterzin Era" (Bruce Sterzing was
President of the D&H) and no effort was spared to run a
1st class operation. On this day a variety of vintage
coaches were pulled by two D&H Baldwin RF-16
Sharknose locomotives 1205 and 1216. The excursion is
shown at Middle Granville, NY, as passengers admire and
photograph this beautiful train.

NEW HAVEN 529
New Haven Railroad 529, built in 1950, is the only survivor
of the company's one-time fleet of Alco-GE RS3 diesel
locomotives. Restored to its mid-1960's paint scheme by its
owner. The Railroad Museum of New England, the vintage
road-switcher operates on the museum's 19 mile Naugatuck
Railroad between Waterbury and Torrington, CT. The
tourist train is seen crossing the Naugatuck River at
Waterville, CT on October 5, 1996.
    

NEW YORK CENTRAL 8223
The first Alco RS-3 delivered to the New York Central
No. 8223 has just crossed the CV diamond at Palmer,
Mass. as it pulls West bound Train 49 on September 25,
1954. At that time the RS-3 was a favorite of the Central
for its passenger service on the Boston & Albany.

ADIRONDACK SCENIC 8223
Restored New York Central Alco RS-3 No. 8223
performs a photo runby for the Adirondack Scenic
Railroads's Railfan Day on June 14, 1997. The
photographer's special is at Lotus Siding heading North
to Carter Station. The 8223 was the first RS-3 delivered
to the New York Central in 1950. The old Alco looks
right at home on the former New York Central's
Adirondack Division.
    

BALTIMORE & OHIO 7606
One of B&O's mighty class EM-1 articulated steam
locomotives heads up a string of hopper cars as it
roars through Corriganville, Md. April 29, 1955. Built
by Baldwin in 1944 as one of thirty for service on
the Cumberland Division.

NORTHERN PACIFIC 7010A
Northern Pacific F-unit 7010A leads this A-B-B-A set
on a merchandise freight August 9, 1966 at Logan,
Montana.
    

CANADIAN NATIONAL 6060
Parked in North Vancouver, B.C. for the night,
former Canadian National Mountain 6060 and former
Canadian Pacific Consolidation await the next day's
duties May 20, 1988. Tomorrow the pair will
doublehead an excursion to Squamish on BC Rail.

GRAND TRUNK WESTERN 6410
Showing the effects of use and deferred maintenance,
Northern 6410 rests in an unknown yard in 1957. Six
of these class U-4-b steamlined locomotives were
built by Lima in 1938. The group was numbered 6405
to 6410.
    

BOSTON & MAINE 4266
Restored in 1982 by the 470 Club and the B&MRRHS
to the original maroon and yellow, the EMD F7A is
now in operable condition. Built in 1949, 4266 is on
display on the Conway Scenic RR, North Conway,
N.H.

CHICAGO, BURLINGTON & QUINCY
Time freight No. 90 arrives at Cicero Yard outside
Chicago from the Twin Cities with a trio of SD45's
painted in the expected upcoming Burlington Northern
colors. August 12, 1969.
    

DELTA BULK TERMINAL 1001
This unit, former Conrail 6792, was sold to this coal
loading facility through Chrome-Crankshaft in
Chicago. No. 1001 is the last operating Alco C-636 in
the U.S. at the time of the photo, August 14, 1984,
taken in Stockton, Calif. However there were still
five C-636's in Conrail's Selkirk, N.Y. yard.

BRITISH COLUMBIA RAILWAY
These electric locomotives are waiting for inbound
empty coal trains on the Tumbler Camp Wye, July 23
1984. Two of these model GF6C electrics can handle
the empty trains and four, two on the front and two
on the rear, are used for loaded trains.

ELECTRO-MOTIVE 1
On its way to the Railroad Industry Show over the
Indiana Harbor Belt RR, the new SD60 is seen at
Riverdale, Ill. on September 16, 1984. EMD-1 is one
of four six motor demonstrators built in the new 60
Series line and is rated at 3800 h.p.

UNION PACIFIC 522
The crew is boarding the four F-unit set, with F9A
522 in the lead, for a timely departure. June 1968.
    

SANTA FE 8000
Westbound U30CG's (with steam generators removed)
8000 and 8002 are west of Galesburg, Ill. The few
times the 8000's were run by this time in their lives
they were usually buried in the middle of a consist.
The crews hated the cabs and the units were
undependable, at best. This shot, with the class unit
8000 in the lead, is a classic. April, 1977.

UTAH RAILWAY
A pair of Alco RSD-4's with 307 up front bring a
long string of hopper cars through Watts Siding,
Utah. August 18, 1980.
    

GREEN MOUNTAIN 400
On Independence Day 1986, Green Mountain Railroad's RS-1
No. 400 heads back to Bellows Falls, Vt., along the
Connecticut River. Green Mountain RR operates excursions to
Chester as well as regular freight service.

METRO-NORTH 2019
Train No. 880 accelerates southbound out of the
Cold Spring, N.Y., station with one of the former
New Haven FL9 diesel electric/electric locomo-
tives. Repainted back into its original color
scheme, 2019 is away from home grounds pow-
ering a Poughkeepsie to Harmon run, August
29, 1986
    

KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN 60
An A-B-A set of Fairbanks-Morse Erie builts are
shown in Kansas City, Mo., February 13, 1954.
Kansas City Southern rostered six A and three B
units of these unusual locomotives.
