LACKAWANNA 808
The Central New York Chapter of the NRHS operated
fall foliage excersions on the Finger Lakes Railway
October 11, 1997. The Chapter's twin EMD E8s No.
808 & 807, painted in the stunning Lackawanna scheme,
are well complimented by the spectacular colors at
Martisco, NY.
    

MAINE CENTRAL 467
Pacific No. 467 at South Portland (Rigby) after
returning from a round trip from Portland to
Waterville, Me. It was the head-end power for a two
part Railroad Enthusiast trip from Boston to
Waterville, with a change of power at Portland. June
8, 1952.

PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD
Steam and diesel power at York, PA. on August 28,
1988. Former Detroit Terminal NW2, painted, letter-
ed and numbered one above the last Pennsy NW2, is
accompanied by the road's famous K4s Pacific 1361.
    

COTTON BELT 9389
Southern Pacific's subsidiary, St. Louis
Southwestern's new SD45T-2 locomotive was
painted in Bicentennial colors by the builder,
EMD, before delivery. The "Spirit of 1776"
is shown at Blue Island, IL., May 7, 1975.

DELAWARE & HUDSON 802
In October 1967 the D&H elected to purchase
their first General Motors EMD locomotives
in the form of three SD45 demonstrators.
All three were sent to the Bangor & Aroo-
stook to be made like new under GM con-
tract. Number 802 is shown on July 29, 1968,
after receiving its rebuilding, at Maine Cen-
tral's Rigby Yard.
    

BELT RAILWAY OF CHICAGO 534
Chicago belt line road sports a patriotic
paint job on their new EMD MP15 locomo-
tive. Belt Railway of Chicago was the host
road for an eight Bicentennial locomotive
display on July 31, 1975.

COLORADO & WYOMING 200
"The Patriot", Colorado & Wyoming GP7
decorated for the Bicentennial and renum-
bered to 200. Unit is shown in Pueblo, Colo-
rado on May 5, 1975 in a scheme designed
by an employee.
    

KATY 200
Just out of the Parsons, Kansas shops, Katy
200 sports a new Bicentennial paint job in-
cluding a huge 50 star flag. October 1975.

GRAND TRUNK WESTERN 1776
GP38 in Bicentennial colors heads up the
Santa Claus Special on the GTW. The Train is
operated annually for children of the employ-
ees. 1776, formerly 5808, is at Royal Oak,
Michigan, December 13, 1975.
    

ILLINOIS CENTRAL GULF 1776
One of eight locomotives in a Bicentennial
lineup, ICG 1776 was unique with its yellow
nose. This was the second Bicentennial 1776
for the ICG as the first met with an unfor-
tunate grade crossing accident. Chicago, Il.,
July 31, 1975.

GREEN BAY & WESTERN 315
Alco's high horsepower, four axle Century
430 ready for delivery to the "Green Bay
Route". The 3000 hp diesel electric loco-
motive rides on high-adhesion trucks.
    

SOUTH BUFFALO 76
The first Bethlehem Steel road to give a loco-
motive a Bicentennial paint scheme is the
South Buffalo Ry. A 1000 HP Alco S2
switcher was picked and is shown in South
Buffalo, N.Y. on August 12, 1975.

UNION PACIFIC
Union Pacific C30-7 No. 2514 leads an eastbound merchandise
freight along the Santa Fe as it approaches Sullivan's Curve in
Cajon Pass, California, May 1989.
    

MILWAUKEE ROAD
Electric motors E-30 and E-47 get ready to
power an eastbound extra freight from the
Seattle/Tacoma area out of Cedar Falls, Wash.,
August 24, 1958. Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul
& Pacific E-47 will couple on the rear to help
on the mountain grades to Snoqualmie
Summit.

LONG ISLAND 252
During the winter of 1976, the long Island
Rail Road took delivery of new GP38-2 loco-
motives from EMD. Standard colors are blue
and white, but No. 252 had red substituted
for the middle blue band in honor of the
nation's Bicentennial. 252 lays over at
Ronkonkoma, N.Y. for the weekend. Feb-
ruary 16, 1976.
    

CELEBRATE THE CENTURY
Amtrak P42 No. 100 heads up the Celebration the Century
Express on 4-10-99 at Atmore, AL. Sponsored by the
U.S. Postal Service, the special train consists of a
baggage car, exhibit car, a restored RPO car and an
historic railroad business car.

CANADIAN NATIONAL 5634
Canadian-built SD701 5634 hauls Conrail train CNSE
eastbound through Little Falls, NY at CP218 on the
Chicago Line, enroute to Selkirk yard on May 7, 1999.
    

SANTA FE 62
The Bold nose of beautiful war bonnet dressed
Alco PA-1 passenger locomotive on the head
end of the California Special, Union Station,
Houston, Texas, May 1, 1964. In 1967, No. 62
was one of four PAs sold to the Delaware &
Hudson, becoming No. 18.

CINCINNATI UNION TERMINAL
At the CUT enginehouse in September of 1956, E-8's
belonging to PRR (no. 5892), C&O and NYC are joined
by L&N E-6 no. 757. CUT was built between 1929 and
1933 by seven railroads at a cost of $41 million, handled
over 200 trains per day and had 16 platform tracks.
    

APACHE RAILWAY
A stronghold for Alco locomotives in the '90s,
Apache C-420 81 to 84 and RS-36 800 are with
train, Holbrook, Arizona, August 24, 1994. The
C-420's came from four different railroads and
the RS-36 (DL-701) was delivered new in the
early '60s.
