These pictures are of the TH-55A Osage. This one was re-typed to the 269A. It
is a very enjoyable machine to fly. This bird was made in 1966 and started life
a Army trainer. It now sports a Morrow radio and gps moving map system in addition
to the usual transponder. ( That is Dave in the first picture doing a auto-rotation down
to the landing pad )
This is a Bell 47. You can see what it was like before and after a student rolled it over. No one was injured, but the bird received major damage. It flew again however after repairs. Actually as wrecks go, this was a "nice" wreck. The Bell balanced perfectly on a blade that stuck in the dirt and the skid, preventing complete distruction.
A nice full hanger of birds. Left to right, The Bell 47 ( later to be wrecked) - The TH55a - A Mini-500 - and a Rotorway Exec 162 F under construction.
A super nice 269a completely restored by Jerry Staggs of Weatherford, Texas. A really nice job ! Jerry is a really good fellow to know if you need things for helicopters. This just really gets a helicopter man's juices flowing !
The helicopter was built for the US ARMY in Feb of 1969 and has only 11,604 hours on it. It was flown at Fort Wolters, Texas up to about 1972 and was sent to Fort Rucker, Alabama. It was transfered out in 1988. The bird was completely taken apart and 10 months later was certified Normal Category and is has the FAA Airworthy Certificate.
