Corgi DH Mosquito and Supermarine Spitfire
On July 17, 1941, the first operational sortie by the 1st Photo Reconnaissance Unit was flown out of RAF Benson in a converted Mosquito B MkIV. On April 22, 1943, after photographing the railway yard at Stettin, the cameras were left running as they flew over the German coast. When developed it was discovered there were pictures of Peenemunde and the first definitive evidence that the previously unidentified objects spotted there were in fact V2 rockets.
The air war in Europe helped decide the outcome of the war. From the early dogfights between Spitfires and Messerschmitts in the skies over Britain to the bombing raids and fighter escorts late in the war, the history of this monumental conflict is rendered in striking detail and authenticity by Corgi. These aircaft can exhibited with the gear up or with the gear down and include the display stand.
