Corgi De Havilland Mosquito FB VI 248 Sqn
In December 1943, de Havilland Mosquito FB. Mk VIs replaced Bristol Beaufighters of No.248 Sqn., RAF, which moved from Talbenny, Cornwall, to Banff in Scotland, to fly against enemy shipping off the Norwegian coast. This Mosquito was flown by Flt. Lt. Stanley G. Nunn and Flg. Off. J.M. Carlin, and was one of four that attacked German Type VIIC U-Boat submarine, U-821, commanded by Oberleutnant Ulrich Knacfuss, off Ushant on June 10,1944, forcing the crew to abandon ship.
The air war in Europe helped decide the outcome of the war. From the early dogfights between Spitfires and Messerschmitts in the skies over Britain to the bombing raids and fighter escourts late in the war, the history of this monumental conflict is rendered in striking detail and authenticity by Corgi.
