Corgi Hawker Hurricane IIB-BD930 N 73 Sq Western Desert, 1942
No. 73 Squadron was formed on July 1st, 1917 at Upavon as a fighter unit. In July 1938 the unit received its Hurricanes, which were put to good use as one of two Hurricane squadrons attached to the Advanced Air Striking Force, moved to France at the outbreak of WWII. After the invasion of France they returned to England and participated in the Battle of Britain. They were rushed to the Middle East in 1940 and flew in the Western Desert in 1942. This aircraft was unique due to the unofficial peacetime flash adorning the fuselage.
The air war in Europe helped decide the outcome of the war. From the early dogfights between Spitfires and Messerschmitts in the skies over Britain to the bombing raids and fighter escorts late in the war, the history of this monumental conflict is rendered in striking detail and authenticity by Corgi. These aircaft can exhibited with the gear up or with the gear down and include the display stand.
